We encourage any members of the society who are interested in participating in outreach activities to sign up to become a STEM Ambassador.

As they say on their website, there are many reasons to want to join:

Engage and enthuse young people about STEM; encourage young people to consider STEM careers and qualifications; contribute to improved academic achievement in STEM subjects; develop other employability skills in young people, including confidence, team-work, presentation and creativity…

In addition to the above, we believe that it is important for people to see from a young age that engineering is a truly diverse profession that anyone can go into if they are interested – there is no stereotypical engineer!

To become an Ambassador, you will need to attend a short induction session and provide details for a (free) DBS check.  You will then recieve regular updates on upcoming events that you can sign up to participate in.  Anyone who is a bit nervous about going into schools outreach has the option to team up with fellow UCLWE members to participate in events.

There are also plenty of schools outreach events that take place within UCL.  UCLWE will endeavour to create links with those who plan these so that we can provide volunteers!
