On Thursday we were joined by three women who were to fight to the death so see which was the best career path… industry or academia!  … just kidding.

Our panelists included:

  • Catriona Savage MSc CEng FRINA, Naval Architect, Technical Director of BMT Defence Services Ltd
  • Eli Keshavarz-Moore, Professor of Bioprocess Science & Enterprise, Department of Biochemical Engineering, UCL
  • Airfric Delahunty PhD, Advanced Technology and Research Engineer at Arup

We had a really interesting discussion on how working in the engineering industry and in academia would be as women. From consulting to research, we talked about the changes that have been made in the last twenty years and how far some areas still have to come. We spoke about the importance of having women in management roles and at director level, so that it reflected the slowly increasing diversity of the general workforce. Overall we came to the conclusion that until applications to universities and engineering jobs had a higher proportion of women, there would continue to be more men hired.

Special thanks to all our speakers.
