At UCL Engineering, we have a strong commitment to breaking down stereotyped perceptions of suitable choices and careers in young people – both girls and boys – by raising awareness of the exciting and wide-ranging careers in engineering, which is also the core objective of our 50.50 strategy. From 23rd of June 2017 to the 30th of June 2017 we will be hosting a series of Women in Engineering events, including the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) at UCL, Women in Engineering Taster Day and Open Labs “Explore Engineering at UCL” sessions, inviting pupils, their teachers and parents to participate in a celebration about STEM subjects and engineering careers for everyone.
All events are packed with inspiring talks, panel discussions, interactive lab sessions, open lab activities throughout the week as well as speed-networking sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to visit different engineering departments as well as get hands-on experience in our lab sessions. The International Women in Engineering celebrations at the Faculty of Engineering will include a series of panel discussions and interactive sessions with successful women and men from different sectors such as industry, academia, governmental and non-governmental sectors. In addition participants will have the opportunity to meet Alumni and current engineering students and engage in practical activities and tours offered by the host engineering departments.
The speed-networking session will bring 30 engineers at different stages of their career or degree from a wide range of engineering sectors in industry, academia and government to share their experiences.
This celebration day aims to encourage and motivate girls and young women to become future engineers in diverse and exciting engineering areas such as Biochemical, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Management and Bioengineering.
