Undergraduate Study at UCL Engineering

Engineering is the discipline that changes things. We take scientific discoveries, mix them together, add our own ideas and make things the world has never seen before or no one thought was possible. If looking at problems isn’t enough for you, consider joining engineers worldwide to actually solve them.

We recognize that problems (and people) don’t fit exactly within the boundaries of one subject. The Faculty of Engineering Science, UCL Engineering, is made up of eleven diverse departments, covering areas from designing environments that reduce crime to tracking satellites in orbit. Working together, and with the rest of UCL and beyond, gives us the interdisciplinary perspective to find solutions.

ABOUT THE IEP

The Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) is a new integrated framework that combines innovative teaching methods and an industry-oriented curriculum with discipline-specific, accredited degree programmes.  Students are given the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary activities and develop their transferable professional skills in the context of real-world engineering projects.

BENEFITS OF THE IEP

Real design experience: Discipline-specific knowledge is brought together with teamwork on open-ended briefs from day one. Our students tackle challenges set by external partners, ensuring they are working on relevant, ambitious tasks. These range from the introductory five-week projects on themes of sustainability and global health, to the intersection of policy and engineering in the programme.
Dedicated time for professional skills: Fully integrated into the courses and taught using discipline-specific examples, skills such as teamwork, ethics, pitching, and professional standards are threaded throughout the first two years. Dedicated staff ensure that these crucial transferable skills are not an afterthought.
An interdisciplinary viewpoint: While students all have a home discipline and a firm understanding of its core knowledge, they also meet, mix and work with specialists from other disciplines, within engineering and beyond.

ENGINEERING STUDY AT UCL

Engineering is the discipline that changes things. We take scientific discoveries, mix them together, add our own ideas and make things the world has never seen before or that no one thought possible. If identifying problems isn’t enough for you, consider becoming one of the engineers worldwide who actually solve them.

We recognize that problems (and people) don’t fit exactly within the boundaries of one subject. The Faculty of Engineering Science, UCL Engineering, is made up of eleven diverse departments, covering areas from designing cities that are less prone to crime to tracking satellites in orbit. Working together, and with the rest of UCL and beyond, gives us the interdisciplinary expertise to find innovative solutions.
