Welcome to the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Electronic and electrical engineers use some of the fundamental forces of nature to bring the world communications and information. Work by engineers in this field has brought us processing power faster than human thought, communications all over our planet and beyond, and revealed ever more about the world around us.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UCL has been at the front of new technology since it was founded by the Father of Electronics, Prof Sir Ambrose Fleming, the inventor of the very first electronic component. Today EEE has internationally recognised research strengths in communications, opto-electronics, radar and sensors. We maintain these abilities with our excellent facilities, which include a supra-100Gbit/s high-speed measurement lab, an MBE machine, a high bandwidth Optical Network Test Bed, and CONNET, the Converged Networks Lab.

Our experimental and research resources combine with emphasis on technical content to produce top-class undergraduate teaching. Our students learn with and from top researchers, and many complete projects that relate to cutting-edge work. For example, we supply our students with a fully equipped nano-technology teaching lab to gain crucial nano-manfuacturing and evaluation skills. Scenario-based learning means that graduates leave us knowing how these techniques apply in the real world, and are highly employable.

Those who choose to study postgraduate qualifications with us can select from a wide portfolio of postgraduate degrees. We are proud to co-run, with Cambridge University, the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Integrated Photonic and Electronic Systems.

We have a tradition of strong links with industry, government, and other academic institutions, and are open to approaches and enquiries from potential collaborators both within the UK and worldwide. Please visit our department to learn more about our activities and how we could work with you.
