The Department of Chemical Engineering hosts the “Nuclear Reprocessing Lab”, where the research is mainly focused on the development and understanding of intensified separation technologies, with an emphasis in Nuclear Reprocessing and Biofuel Production.
Highlights of the research include, among others, studies on small-scale reactors and counter-current chromatography systems. Scale-up strategies for commercialization of the small-scale processes are also investigated with multi-channel reactors.
The aim of this research is to gain fundamental knowledge, aided by state-of-the-art instrumentation, of the hydrodynamic phenomena and their interactions with mass transfer.
